I hope you are having a beautiful summer and will take a moment to enjoy reading about what Monk Parrots has in store for you in fall 2019 and beyond.
After capturing audiences at the Nagambie Lakes Opera Festival in 2016, Macbeth, our critically acclaimed international co-production with Melbourne-based Gertrude Opera, returns October 19 and October 26 at the Yarra Valley Opera Festival. Described by Opera Chaser as “Chilling force…a new gripping, shortened and stylized meshing of Verdi’s Macbeth”, this work supports our mission to present multidisciplinary theater that evokes socially relevant themes in unique and experimental ways while tightening the gap between artists and audiences worldwide. If Australia is not on your travel itinerary this year no problem because with your help Macbeth is coming to New York City! We are planning a preview performance in December to help launch the 2021 U.S. Premiere at La MaMa’s historic Ellen Stewart Theatre. You will recall the last world premiere opera-theater piece Monk Parrots commissioned and produced at The Ellen Stewart Theatre was Peter Stopschinski and Kirk Lynn’s Bum Phillips, so 2021 will be a sweet homecoming.
Macbeth is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. We kindly request your support at this time to help raise an additional $6,000 before our fiscal year ends on August 31.
Please consider making a tax-deductible gift today. Individual donations are necessary to bring this long-awaited international co-production to the United States. We accept contributions securely online via PayPal or Network for Good. Please note both services offer the option to make your donation a recurring payment in case you want to spread the love over time and fuel new works in our pipeline. If you prefer to show your support by check, please make checks payable to Monk Parrots and mail to 5822 Spencer Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471.
